In our daily life, connectivity has become as almost as important as the air to breath. While hundreds of years ago the only way for people to communicate was to talk to each other or to write letters, interacting nowadays happens most of the time on a completely new and different level: “Digital Communication”. cell phones and computers dominate our time. It is obvious that the connectivity between people and cultures especially between those from all over the world has extremely improved. Today we communicate much faster and more extensive then ever before!

The main medium of digital connectivity is doubtlessly the internet, which makes it possible for humans from all over the world to communicate via chat, live messengers or via blogs and comments. Millions already entered one of the numerous social networks (facebook, Myspace, Studivz etc.).Almost everything seems to be possible! Within seconds people from China share information with people from Spain and talk about the newest music videos and fashion trends.

The most popular social network is MySpace, which counts today more then 114 million users worldwide (June 2007). This large number of users might sound logical to people because it is a “great thing” to interact with each other, but if one takes into consideration that this network exists now only for four years, its explosive diffusion becomes clear. People use networks, such as MySpace to express themselves. They create their own spaces with personalized designs, posted comments, videos, pictures etc.

If you think that social networks, blogs and homepages are just a matter of comfort and fun, you have to think again! It is far more then that, it is also a constantly increasing business. Advertisers and producers (Nike, Dell, Mentos etc.) have already noticed the big influence the internet and especially the social networks have on people. therefore they started taking advantage of it. Companies respond to people’s comments about their products and also post own blogs and news. Those blogs are also interesting for marketing researchers to observe. It often gives them a general idea about what people actually want, need and dream of, that they can come up with new plans, initiatives and designs. It also supplies them with an insight about peoples cost/performance ratio.

If we think of mobility, the first things which pop up in our minds are probably cars, trains, plains etc. but on second though we probably involve also our mobile phone. This is actually pretty odd, because phones and computers don’t make us move a bit. Although, we just don’t feel mobile without one of them! This is a good example which shows us pretty well how much we depend on these technical advantages without even noticing it.It is also very interesting to see how fast mobile phones improved during the last decade.Today’s cell phones are incomparable with those, ten years ago. It is not only the look that has changed dramatically, but also the features. If you take a look at a cell phone from 1995 you will probably only find features like SMS (short message service) and the calling function on it, while today’s phones are more comparable to a small computer. Even though, the phones are becoming smaller,they are getting more technically advanced; High resolution mega pixel camera, internet, MP3 player and instant messenger are not any longer a uncommon. Furthermore, the memory capacity has become even larger!

The look is important!

It is significant that for most people not just the features of their phones are essential but also the design. Mobile phones are now considered “fashion items”! Everybody wants to have the latest phones, with the coolest designs and features on it! Even the jewelry industry has recognized this and therefore they create for example cell phones, decorated with hundreds of swarovsky crystals .

However, one should not ignore the radiance which can cause health problems! This is extremely important when it comes to very young children using cell phones. Unfortunately most parents are not aware of that risk and still buy their kids regular phones. The industry has recognized this problem and has been activly updating their phones while proofing for radiation. There are even special “kid phones” on the market which do not endanger children’s health at all. Often, those mobile phones are very simplified and have mostly just a couple of buttons on it. The child is only able to dial the most important phone numbers ( mommy, daddy, grandma, best friend ).

Even though cell phones can cause health problems, they have become our constant companions and we have turned out as their loyal buyers!
